Judy Selk Flores earned a Ph.D. in the arts of Oceania from the University of East Anglia, England. She also holds a master’s degree in Micronesian studies and a bachelor of arts degree in arts education from the University of Guam.
Flores is a research associate with the University of Guam’s Richard Flores Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center and is a retired History of Guam professor from the University of Guam. She currently serves as development and special projects officer of the Historic Inalahan Foundation, a living museum in the historic village of Inarajan.
Flores, a Guam resident since 1957, is a well-known Guam artist and her fine art batik paintings seen in many public buildings depict Guam’s historical, cultural, and natural landscapes. She grew up in the village of Inarajan, learned to speak the Chamorro language and married into the culture. She has served as a board member, secretary, then chair of the Guam Humanities Council from 2000 to 2004, and worked as development officer for the organization in 1995. Flores also collaborated with many Guam Humanities Council projects in her capacity as folk arts coordinator for the Guam Arts Council from 1986 to 1995.
