Lawrence J. Cunningham received a B.S. in education and an M.Ed. from the University of Cincinnati in 1965 and 1967, respectively. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Oregon, which was awarded in 1987.
Cunningham is a research associate at the Richard F. Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center, University of Guam, an assistant professor of history at the University of Guam and faculty advisor for the Traditional Seafaring Society.
He is the author of Ancient Chamorro Society, 1992; and co-author of A History of Guam, 2001; Guam: A Natural History, 2001; and Micronesian Texts for the K-12 Reader: A Selection Guide, 2002.
Cunningham has traveled throughout the United States, Micronesia, Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Nepal, and Africa. His awards include: Governor’s Literary Arts Award, Ancient Order of the Chamorri, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Dean’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Excellence in Part-Time Instruction Award and the Governor’s Humanities Award.
