Assignment Editor

Tanya M. Champaco Mendiola has been the assignment editor of the Guam Humanities Council Guampedia project since 2006. Mendiola is the second eldest of six children of Norbert Flores Mendiola and Martha V. Champaco Mendiola. She graduated with a bachelor of arts in communications and a minor in English from the University of Guam.

Prior to joining Guampedia, Mendiola was a researcher, communications officer and writer for I Liheslaturan Guåhan/the Guam Legislature in the offices of Senator Judith Won Pat, Senator Lou Leon Guerrero and Vice Speaker Joanne Brown, during the 26th, 27th and 28th legislatures, respectively. During her tenure at the legislature, Mendiola composed speeches, legislative correspondence and articles for publication. Mendiola was also responsible for coordinating public meetings, and the compilation and editing of reports for proposed legislation as well as nominees to governmental posts.

Mendiola is a former journalist for the Pacific Daily News and Marianas Variety. She has also been a contracted writer for various publications and organizations, and an adjunct professor of English for the Guam Community College Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
